…you make some of the softest, sweetest shots that you can imagine. We started the session with beautiful sunshine as you can see in the first shot. Not forty minutes later, a big dark cloud came to threaten Melissa’s maternity shoot. It just poured down in bucket loads, but, we would not be deterred – specially because she and Dad-to-be had driven down from Boca Raton for this session. So, we took cover from the rain and continued shooting through it in a sweet soft almost window-like light. I love it when the sessions just go with the flow like this; of course it helps when your clients are really easy-going, fun and two of the nicest people you’ll meet. Melissa and Coley, you were both fantastic. Can’t wait to photograph the little peanut. ♥ Vanessa

It’s always fun when my clients say, “I wanna do something different”. I’ve been photographing this family since pregnancy #1 and we’ve done many sessions since then, so Mom wanted to do something different for yet-to-be-named baby #2. We’ve done the park, the beach, the studio, and their home, so for this session we went a little urban. It’s always helpful that they are just a gorgeous family inside and out. Plus when you get to that comfort level where you can just talk and relax and shoot it’s just magic. I loved so many shots so I made an extra long post. I can’t wait to photograph baby boy #2. This singular lady is Sonia, one of the most calm, relaxed, and easy-going women I’ve ever met. She’s also a rare breed because, unlike most of the moms-to-be I photograph, she wanted to document her belly at it’s maximum glory! So, she called me a week before she was scheduled to give birth to do her baby bump pics; and, due to multiple rained-out reschedules, we did her session in the studio just TWO days before she gave birth! Mind you, I said she’s calm and relaxed and easy-going, why? Because, after having driven down from Hallandale Beach with family in tow, she nonchalantly broke the news that she had forgotten all her outfits at home (which she had shopped for hours to find) and was completely unstressed about it. What?!!? Well, improv time… Here’s one of my favorite frames from her session. Look at this beauty!! Just absolutely gorgeous Sonia!!! ♥

Photographing at my client’s homes is such a pleasure. I get to incorporate their life and style into their portraits, and really personalize their images. This is particularly fun when you already know them and their style ,which in this case is very slick and modern. But, Mary’s story is even more fun than their modern style. You see, I photographed Mary’s first pregnancy (you may recognize her from my website’s gallery) and while we were about 8 months into baby #1′s first year collection, she called me saying “you’re not going to believe this!” She proceeded to laugh while telling me she was pregnant with baby #2!!! Needless to say, things have been hectic and crazy for her and the whole family. So after repeated attempts to do maternity session #2, we finally got to do it one week prior to her scheduled delivery! Yes, she gave birth the week after and I photographed adorable baby Angelina within the week. I’ll be posting those next week, but in the meantime, here are some of my faves from her maternity shoot. They had the most amazing white sofa with really tall white walls….super modern chic…totally eyeball candy for me. Mary, once again you were fantastic! And no chicken cutlets!! This lovely lady is Arlene. For her anniversary, she received the beautiful gift of photography from her sweet, very smart, hubby. Baby Agatha is due in about a month, so tic toc…time is a tickin’! During her maternity session I came to find out that Arlene is apparently notorious for becoming really serious in photos, but in this shot her “baby daddy” was right outside the frame and look at that smile! She just lit up! Just beautiful….

this beautiful mama is awaiting princess #2 sometime in June. baby Kalia will be joining princess #1, Melina, whom you may recognize as one of the stars from the slideshow at the top of this blog. She’s going on 3 and it never seizes to shock me how time flies. It seems like yesterday that I was photographing her 6 months and now she’s going to be a big sister!

This photo shoot was AWE. SOME! I loved doing this session and you can see why. there are so many amazing shots! this first one is one of my favorite frames evah! Thanks Tara and George for such a wonderful time. I’m so excited to continue documenting your growing family. It’s an honor…. : D

This was such a sweet session. When I spoke to Anizia about doing something different for her maternity photos she was completely into it. then she told me that the day of her session was also her anniversary. This made me feel twice as honored to not only document her pregnancy but the love that conceived it. You could feel the love…she totally lit up when he was in the shots with her. Anizia and Roberto, you were both amazing, these are a few from your very cool session. Muchos besos…

smiling, in my opinion, is one of the most positive things you can do to sprinkle some happiness in your life. in fact, smiling has such a positive vibration that it’s contagious…seriously, have you ever found yourself smiling just because you see someone smiling? well, that was the case with Tina; she just lights up and spreads the joy of smiling. I tried to get some non-smiling shots; you know, the longing, pensive looks to add a little drama to some images and she just couldn’t do it! she’s a smiler and we’re all the better for it. surely baby Skylar will be just as sweet and happy as mommy, big brother Tyler and daddy Billy. Â

Tina is doing pregnancy yoga which you can tell is doing wonders because she even hopscotched at the beach! namaste…. : D

there’s a particular glow to pregnant women that just amazes me every time and Jewel’s session, befitting her name, was no exception. the ladies in America’s Next Top Model have nothing on her!! lol… she did her thing like a pro and realized how modeling is much harder than it looks on tv. it got a little chilly by the end of the session but in total supermodel mode she toughed it out and WOW…go Jewel!

I just love this shot. I set up Jewel exactly where I could get the effect I wanted and then I saw the bird enter the frame right where I needed it and voila…there it was. this is what Henri Cartier-Bresson (one of my favorite photographers) called the “decisive moment”, I could not have planned it better.

ideally every photographer loves bright sunny days for photos, but one can’t always have it all, specially with our wonderfully unpredictable Miami weather. this day was absolutely gorgeous until 15 minutes after we started the session, yet the light was still beautifully creamy lending itself to very dramatic images, which are always a welcomed artistic change. the clouds and the sun met perfectly creating all the drama needed for this glowing expectant mom. Jessica your look amazing! I can’t wait to meet baby!
